A Life With a Purpose: Remembering Cameron

October 22, 2015, changed everything, but it did not dim his light.

Cameron William Selmon (“Lil Cam”) was more than a headline. He was an aspiring dentist, a talented artist, a beloved son, and a friend who could fix a flat tire as easily as he could make a whole room laugh. From the football fields of Southwind Elementary to the choir competitions in Hawaii, Cameron approached life with style, swag, and a generous spirit.

He was on his way to accomplishing great things when his life was tragically taken by gun violence at the age of 19. While his physical journey ended too soon, his legacy of helping others continues right here.

The Silent Epidemic

Cameron is not alone. Every day, families across our nation are shattered by gun violence.

We are facing a crisis that targets our future. Gun violence is now the leading cause of death for children and teens in the United States. It is not just a statistic; it is an empty chair at the dinner table and a future left unfulfilled.

Keep these Thoughts in Your Heart

“Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it’s the only thing that ever has.”

— Margaret Mead

“Carve your name on hearts, not on marble. A legacy is etched into the minds of others and the stories they share about you.”

— Shannon L. Alder

The Mission

"To provide support for the community and families of the victims of gun violence through education, prevention, advocacy, and awareness."

We are turning pain into power. Justice For Cameron is dedicated to wrapping our arms around grieving families and educating our youth to choose life over violence.

They were athletes, scholars, artists, and dreamers.

Too often, victims of gun violence are remembered only for their final moments. We are changing that narrative. This series is dedicated to sharing the accomplishments, talents, and beautiful personalities of the young people we have lost. We are here to say their names and tell their stories.
